City Council candidate Monique Chandler-Waterman spoke exclusively to News 12's Tony Chau about her expletive-laced outburst against police officers.

Chandler-Waterman was caught on camera on Oct. 30, 2018 screaming and cursing at officers outside of a school. The Daily News reported that she was protesting her husband's suspension from coaching football. School officials say he mishandled a sexual assault allegation, but Chandler-Waterman argues that was not the reason she was arguing. She claims the children at the school were being denied sports activities.

"We need safer streets. We need better housing, better schools," says Chandler-Waterman. "And sometimes you have to speak out to make sure that that's done. So I won't apologize for speaking out on that day."

Her response comes one day after one of her competitors, Farah Louis, addressed her own controversy. She is said to have tweeted anti-Semitic and anti-LGBT remarks.

The special election is set to be held Tuesday, May 14.
