As part of National Small Business Week, a Brooklyn business owner is sharing with News 12 how he keeps his shop thriving amid the challenges that come with running a small business.
The Brooklyn Press in Bed-Stuy is a screen-printing shop for apparel and accessories. It’s known for working with a variety of top brands. For the past six years, Scott Mason has made his business a staple in the borough – using ink as a gateway to grow his network.
“Being a small business person in Brooklyn really means being diverse in terms of what you do day to day, and that's really awesome,” says Mason.
But Mason notes that running a small business comes with challenges, such as the rising costs of rent and labor. It’s why the president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce says supporting small businesses is important.
"Anytime you can go, shop locally, support the local business it's only going to help the economy of Brooklyn and the city,” says Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President Hector Batista.
With a mission to give customers a friendly print shop experience, the Brooklyn Press has managed to rise above the hurdles that come its way.
"We keep this business alive and thriving by leaning into our motto. Print, make friends, repeat,” says Mason. “We're about creating an ecosystem of amazing people doing amazing work in this great environment in Brooklyn, and helping each other thrive and we think that that makes us stand out."
Brooklyn Press’ team of four aims to help brands make long-lasting impressions through their passion of making creative prints.
