North Bergen Mayor Nicholas Sacco wins 8th term in office

North Bergen incumbent Mayor Nicholas Sacco has won his eighth term in office in this year’s mayoral race, defeating challenger businessman Larry Wainstein.
“Today was a day that goes down in history. I was shooting at 64% [of the vote], which we got four years ago, and we ended up with 69% of the vote,” Sacco says.
Sacco says that he has plans for a new school system for the city. He says that his opponent sued the city over a referendum that would allow this to happen. He says that now that he has been re-elected, it is time to go forward with the new system.
Sacco says that the city also has plans for a rec center, public library, as well as public parks.
North Bergen was not the only Hudson County city with a mayoral election Tuesday. West New York Commissioner Gabriel Rodriguez defeated two-term incumbent Mayor Felix Roque in that election.
