Police: Teen on bicycle fatally struck by truck in Borough Park

BOROUGH PARK -

Police say a 16-year-old male who fell off his bicycle Wednesday was killed by a passing truck in Borough Park.

The incident occurred on 17th Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

According to police, the victim swerved to avoid an opened car door, but clipped it and fell off his bike.

The teenager was then run over by a Safety Plumbing and Heating truck.

Detectives tell News 12 he had severe trauma to his head and body.

A private ambulance took him to Maimonides Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The driver stayed on the scene and is not being charged, according to police.

An investigation is ongoing.
