Nelson Mandela's grandson, Ndaba Mandela, visited Madiba Prep Middle School Friday, teaching them about social justice.
He called the mass incarcerations in America “the new form of slavery” and said the kids need to be our “beacon of hope.”
The Madiba School in Bedford-Stuyvesant is named after Nelson Mandela's South African clan name.
The school aims to teach students some of the principles that were important to him, such as community service and leadership.
Through his
nonprofit organizations, Ndaba plans to continue talking to the youth about his grandfather's political efforts.
