Officer struck by car during traffic stop incident in Brownsville suffers broken leg

Police were at the scene Saturday morning where an officer was struck by a car during a traffic stop in Brownsville Friday night.
Police say it happened around 11 p.m. between Riverdale Avenue and Chester Street.
Though it is unknown what lead to the stop, police have confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.
Investigators say the driver tried to get away and in the process backed into one of the officers, breaking his leg. Officials say the officer then fired a single shot at the vehicle.
According to police, two people, a 28-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were in the vehicle. They were arrested.
Officials told News 12 the officer who was hit was taken to the hospital with a broken leg. He is now in stable condition.
Authorities have not yet announced any charges.
