There have been some changes to a Kensington intersection over the last few weeks with the Department of Transportation beginning work on what they're calling pedestrian safety improvements.

The intersection of Ocean Parkway Service Road and East 8th Street has been getting busier over the years.

"There used to be no one here. I am a walker, so I used to be here anyway, but you see it getting busier year by year, month by month. You can see a horse walking by, there’s everything here," says Sherry Davis, of Kensington.

A variety of people and animals share the space that the DOT has begun work on to install a crosswalk. The DOT is also upgrading pedestrian ramps to be ADA-compliant and adding new pedestrian and bike lanes. 

"I think it will definitely help, especially with side streets like this one, cars can definitely speed here," says Janet, of Kensington.

Some of the work has already begun and at least one of the pedestrian ramps has already been upgraded.
