Community calls for safer streets in Dyker Heights

Elected officials joined community members in Dyker Heights Saturday demanding the city's Department of Transportation make streets safer.
They say there have been too many accidents along 10th and 11th avenues and they're calling on the city to do something before more people get injured.
The people said the area needs more stop signs and stop lights to prevent crashes.
Residents say they're constantly hearing honking, screeching cars and even crashes along 10th and 11th avenues between 75th and 85th streets.
According to Vision Zero data, there have been at least 10 reported crash-related injuries in the area this year through the end of April. Lawmakers say several crashes happened in the past two weeks.
Local leaders say there are many young children out in the area and that's why more measures are needed.
News 12 reached out to the DOT and is waiting to hear back.
