MTA check-in clock in Greenwood vandalized for 2nd time

GREENWOOD -

Officials say a check-in clock at the MTA 38th Street Train Yard & Facility was discovered to be broken Saturday morning.

MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny says this is the second time this week that the MTA time-keeping equipment has been vandalized. She says that riders and taxpayers deserve to have a modern system in place to verify when workers begin and end their shifts.

In a statement, the inspector general says, "We will not be intimidated by illegal acts of sabotage that are only designed to undermine our efforts to ensure accountability across the MTA and protect taxpayer dollars from misuse. I thank the members of the MTA management who referred this incident, and I am directing our office to both work with the NYPD to determine who vandalized this clock, and further determine whether this matter demands additional reforms across the entire system."

A spokesperson for the MTA also released a statement: "We were notified of the damaged time clock this morning and immediately referred the matter to the inspector general."

The MTA Inspector General asks anyone with information to call the confidential tip line at 1-800-682-4448.
