140 students participate in Commander for the Day through NYPD

More than 140 kids from across the city took over the NYPD Wednesday as part of the Commissioner for a Day contest.
Students submitted essays for the Police Athletic League about how they would address critical issues in their neighborhood.
Chief of Transit Edward Delatorre and Commissioner James O'Neill called the event one of their favorite days on the job.
"When I stand here next to a high school student, I see the gleam in their eye and how excited they are to be part of that whole world we're in," said Delatorre. "I think we're planting the right seeds and they're going to be great leaders in the future."
