Greenpoint officials met with community members over concerns about a foul gasoline-like odor that had some feeling sick.
According to officials at he presentation Wednesday, the odor was a result of built-up petroleum product in the sediment and debris inside the sewer system. They say it was contained to the sewers, which have been flushed out.
Officials don't believe the odor to be an ongoing problem, even though there have still been reports of odors in recent weeks.
An investigation into where the petroleum product came from is still ongoing. Officials say they have reviewed possibilities of the source including nearby gas stations and dumping, but have yet to identify it.
