Jersey Proud: Jersey City man named honorary deputy fire chief
Firefighters saved Gregory Green from a fire when he was 10 years old.
For the last 55 years, he has repaid the favor by helping out at the firehouse.
Green, now 65, is suffering from some health issues. Firefighters named him an honorary Jersey City deputy fire chief at an award ceremony Friday.
"Gregory is one of my most favorite people in the world, and I say that sincerely. I've had conversations with Gregory, his heart and his spirit, his soul, he's just incredible. Beyond what he does for us, the type of person he is, is incredible,” says Jersey City Fire Capt. Stephen Drenna.
Firefighters now visit Green at his rehab facility to return the favor.
