A Brooklyn writer is making his directorial debut and some scenes are being shot in Canarsie.
Moise Morancy is shooting his movie, "When a Tree Falls," at Egoli Barbershop on Seaview Avenue.
The first-time director says people are a product of their environment or they are a product of their choices. He says his film is about choices.
"When a Tree Falls" focuses on a character named Calvini, who is played by Morancy, as he finds out his stepfather is a drug dealer.
He says some of the actors are from the neighborhood and that the film addresses many issues in the black community that are not often interwoven with a family story.
Morancy has also had acting roles on “SVU” and “Blue Bloods.” He says he wants to bring the community together through his film making.
