Music that inspires: Meet Sammy Rae & The Friends

BROOKLYN -

Brooklyn band “Sammy Rae & The Friends” spoke with News 12 Saturday about their music and their upcoming headlining show at the Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg.

Samantha Bowers, otherwise known as Sammy Rae, moved to the city from Connecticut for school, but after working all sorts of other jobs, she is now officially working solely on her music alongside her eight band members.

She says she wants her songs make a difference in peoples lives.

"I remember just saying I don't really need to be famous. I just need a loud voice so I can start standing up for the people that need to be stood up for,” she says.

Bowers says she hopes the music give people “strength” and “joy.”

Their next show is on July 14 at the Brooklyn Bowl.
