Cement truck fatally strikes 29-year-old in Williamsburg

A cement truck fatally struck a 29-year-old woman on a bicycle in Williamsburg Monday.
Police say it happened around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of Bushwick Avenue and Boerum Place.
Surveillance video shows that the cyclist was crossing the street when the cement truck struck her. The woman appeared to be coming out from underneath scaffolding and was hit along the crosswalk.
There's no word on who had the right of away.
The video shows several cars before the truck clearing the intersection just seconds before the crash.
Police say the driver of the truck was a 70-year-old man. He remained at the scene and has not been charged.
According to the group Transportation Alternatives, it marks the 15th cyclist death in New York this year. That eclipses the 2018 total already -- with half of the year left to go.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said he has directed the NYPD to crack down on dangerous driving behavior like parking in bike lanes, and charged the Department of Transportation to come up with a new cyclist safety plan.
