Organizations banded together for a series of protests demanding elected officials get behind closing immigrant detention centers around the country.

There were several demonstrations in Brooklyn Tuesday as part of the #CloseTheCamps protests. Attendees went to the district offices of several officials to gather support for their cause.

Those involved called the immigration centers inhumane, and say children and families have been forced to live in horrific conditions. Some likened them to concentration camps.

Earlier Tuesday, protesters went to Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney's office on Lorimer Street. Others met with Rep. Max Rose at his office in Bay Ridge, where he called the conditions "unacceptable."

Rose says he plans to visit the border facilities to get a firsthand look at their conditions this summer.

Afterward, some met outside Prospect Park continuing their call for action, chanting "close the camps" and saying immigrants are welcome here.
