A candlelight vigil was held Friday to mark the one-year anniversary of a fatal pedestrian accident in Canarsie.

Tianna Frye was struck and killed July 5, 2018 by an SUV on Rockaway Parkway and Schenck Street. She was hit a short block away from where traffic merges onto the Belt Parkway. 

The driver stayed at the scene and was not charged.

Frye's mother, Bridgette Frye, says coming back to the scene just triggered the same feelings of pain. 

"We have not got closure and that hurts the most," Bridgette said. 

The vigil honored Frye through flowers and balloons.

Bridgette said her 23-year-old daughter had aspirations of becoming a nurse.

"I just want to honor her memory and let her know we still love her," Bridgette said. "We're still here for her."

As painful as it is to return to the scene of her death, Frye's mother told News 12 she plans on returning for the next anniversary and for years to come.
