A heat wave is taking over the Bronx this weekend with temperatures reaching near 110 degrees.

The city's Department of Health is encouraging residents to stay hydrated, avoid doing any heavy activity during peak sun hours and to stay out of the sun, especially if you have a health condition.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's office also warned of heat illness. Symptoms include skin that feels hot and dry or cold and clammy, confusion, nausea, trouble breathing, weakness and dizziness.

Residents are urged to call 911 if they or anyone else is experiencing these symptoms. Studies show that heat kills more people than any other extreme weather.

The city also extended pool and beach hours for an extra hour Saturday and Sunday. Pools will close at 8 p.m. and beaches will close at 7 p.m.

Employees at the McDonald's in Soundview say air conditioning is cooling the front part of the restaurant, but the back area only has fans that push around the hot air.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene told News 12 the lack of air conditioning at the restaurant should not affect the food, but they will submit this complaint to their food safety team.
