A suspected MS-13 gang member charged in connection with a machete slaying is due back in court Monday.
Luis Alejandro Varela pleaded not guilty to second degree murder charges last week.
Police arrested him in connection with the killing of Carlos Rivas Majano in 2017.
Prosecutors say Varela was one of six men who hacked the victim to death with machetes.
Majano's body was found in a sump near the Meadowbrook Parkway.
