Community commemorates 400th anniversary of slaves first arriving to US

People from across New York City commemorated today with a ceremony at Brooklyn Bridge Park, as this month marks the 400 anniversary of when slaves first arrived to America.
School officials, law enforcement officials, and community advocates are receiving citations for their contributions to the city.
Slaves first arrived to America back in 1619, enduring brutal treatment, and some people say --America still has a long way to go.
The borough president says it's important to learn from the history of slavery so that our country can continue to grow.
