17 taken into custody, 4 arrested after crowd attacks police during Marcy Houses event

BED-STUY -

A family day was disrupted in Brooklyn as a crowd became aggressive toward police officers Saturday night.

The annual celebration held at the Marcy Houses in Bed-Stuy ended with officers being attacked and more than a dozen people being taken into custody at one point.

Police were called to the Marcy Houses around 11 p.m. to respond to some sort of disruption to the event and alleged public drinking.

The NYPD says when the officers arrived several people became combative. They say at one point officers reported bottles were being thrown at them from above.

Officials say 17 people were taken into custody and nearly a dozen summonses were issued.

News 12 is told three people were arrested and are facing charges for obstruction of government administration.

A fourth person was also arrested, a 17-year-old, who is facing attempted assault charges after being accused of head butting a police officer in the back of the head.

The NYPD PBA called out Mayor Bill de Blasio on Twitter following the incident saying, “when will the mayor stand up and say enough is enough.”

In response, Mayor de Blasio tweeted saying, "anyone who attacks our NYPD officers WILL be caught and WILL pay the consequences."
