18-year-old driver charged with manslaughter of cyclist

Authorities say the driver in a crash that left a cyclist dead last week is being charged.
Umar Mirza Baig, 18, was arraigned on a 17-count indictment in which he is charged with second-degree manslaughter. Baig is also facing other charges including criminally negligent homicide and second-degree assault.
The DA said Baig was speeding through a steady red light and collided with another vehicle on Avenue L. Baig's vehicle was traveling around 61 mph in a 25 mph zone at the time of impact, according to the DA.
A 52-year-old cyclist was struck and killed.
The crash also caused internal bleeding and spine trauma for the other driver.
Bail was set at $50,000 bond or $10,000 in cash. News 12 was told he posted bail.
