The West Indian American Day Carnival is known for its extravagant display of masquerade costumes, and Stronjeh International in Brooklyn is working around the clock to prepare.
Stronjeh International expects to dress 200 or more people as part of its large band.
This year's theme is Regalia. It's not all jewels and glitter, and there are real prizes at stake.
Edward Caprice Connor says it's not about the price tag, although costumes can range in price from $350 to over $1,000.
"It becomes somewhat emotional to just see it come to life," says Connor.
He says nothing beats watching it move down Eastern Parkway.
