The NYPD is working with an organization to make sure students across the city are ready for the school year.
Officers handed out about 2,000 free backpacks across the five boroughs Sunday.
The NYPD partnered with PCNY in the Streets to raise money for 14,000 backpacks.
The backpack drive was started by Wayne Scheider. He drove around in exotic cars to bring the backpacks to the students. He used the cars as a way to motivate the students to work hard.
They've been giving them away to families in need for the past two weeks.
The bags come with supplies so kids have everything they need for class.
Organizers say it's important to make sure students have the tools they need to succeed.
