Couple seeks help of BP Adams to acquire permit for vegan food truck

Opening a vegan food truck has proven to be 10-year headache for a couple that simply wants to sell healthy options to people in Brooklyn.
News 12 is told it comes down to a loophole that now has them seeking help from the borough president.
Renegade Vegan Food Truck owners LaDonna Powell and Arthur Robertson say when they went to get their permit they were told that the waiting list closed 10 years prior.

“The last person to get called has been on the waiting list for 12 years,” says Powell.
The couple says everything is ready from the recipes to the truck itself, and the only thing missing it the citywide permit.

The city Health Department told News 12 that they are in charge of the waiting lists and operating a food cart or truck in the city requires a permit. By law, those permits are capped and when the list is exhausted they start a new one.

Borough President Eric Adams says his office is stepping in to see what can be done.
“Yes, we are going to reach out to the city to see if we to see if we can expedite, many people know how important food is to me and part of our overall plan,” says Adams.

The couple says they hope this plan will include their Renegade Vegan Food Truck.
