A wake was held Friday for the 10-year-old struck and killed by a driver earlier this month in Midwood.
Enzo Farachio was waiting at a bus stop Sept. 10 when an SUV drove onto the sidewalk. A Lexus SUV traveling north on Ocean Avenue veered to the right and hit the boy near Avenue L. The driver went on to hit nearby scaffolding as well. Investigators say it appears the driver suffered a medical episode.
A stream of people paid their respects to Farachio Friday. His funeral will be held Saturday in Flatbush at Our Lady of Refuge Church, followed by burial at Green-Wood Cemetery.
Earlier this week, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the driver should not have been on the road. He's hoping to get a law passed that would require doctors to report to the Department of Motor Vehicles if any driver is taking medication or diagnosed with something that would impact their driving. Council Member Corey Johnson is also working on a bill to make streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
