Hundreds of people showed up to pay respects to the NYPD school safety officer Naire McCormick in Brooklyn on Monday.
Police say McCormick was shot and killed by her boyfriend Jancy Dempster last Sunday, who then took his own life.
The line to get into the viewing service went on out the door of Calvary Baptist Church all the way down Hicks Street. There was also a heavy police presence at the wake.
News 12 was told that McCormick spent 15 years as a school safety agent, two of those years at Millennial High School.
First responders said they found her dead inside a bedroom at an apartment on Claremont Avenue. Police were called twice to investigate reports of screaming inside the apartment.
McCormick grew up in Red Hook before moving away several years ago. Last Wednesday, family and lifelong friends came together for a vigil to honor her and described her as sweet and outgoing. They say she was always quick with a joke.
McCormick will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
