Volunteers hand out free food to hungry community members in Coney Island

Dozens of hungry New York residents lined up to receive personalized food packages from the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island.
The distribution, which included bread, potatoes, meat, fish and honey, was sponsored by the Met Council to help ring in the Jewish New Year.
Recipients of the meals filled out forms choosing what products they wanted so nothing went to waste.
Residents also volunteered to help out. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Councilman Matthew Eugen also stopped by to praise those who put together the pantry.
The Jewish Community Council hosts distributions several times a year around the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana, Hanukkah and Passover. They say it's a way to make sure elderly people in the borough always have something to eat.
