The Department of Motor Vehicles and the governor's Traffic Safety Committee has announced free child seat inspections throughout the state during the month of October.

The service is part of a yearlong safety initiative.

The DMV commissioner says car crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. They say a properly installed seat can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death.

Certified child passenger safety technicians are available to help parents and caregivers select and properly install the best fitting car seat for heir child.
