Brooklyn Borough Hall ceremony honors local heroes

A ceremony at Brooklyn Borough Hall Thursday honored a group of New Yorkers for their heroic acts over the last few months.
Borough President Eric Adams says the group went out of their way to help others in need - in some cases even risking their lives.
The heroic acts included one woman who single-handedly helped to drain a flooded roadway with a traffic cone, two MTA conductors who saved people who had jumped onto the subway tracks, and a community activist who helped collect thousands of bottles of water to help residents of Newark, New Jersey.
An FDNY captain was also honored for rescuing a drowning person off of Pier 6 while he was off duty. Adams says all of these people deserve this recognition for their heroism.
Adams says these awards demonstrate that the borough has no shortage of heroes - all of whom have made Brooklyn a better place.
