Brooklyn motorcyclists swarm streets in pink, raise awareness for breast cancer
Motorcyclists from Brooklyn are riding in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The bikers started along Third Avenue and are riding into Manhattan to Hope Lodge, a facility funded by the American Cancer Society, where they will be visiting people affected by the disease.
This is the ride’s fourth year, organized by motorcycle groups Freedom Bloxx and Hussle Kings.
The idea started with the motorcycles themselves. Organizers say they realized that big groups of bikers riding down a street altogether turns many heads.
The goal is to raise awareness when onlookers see bikers wearing pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
Organizers Jose, Rosario and Israel say they each have had loved ones in their lives affected by cancer.
They say the annual ride is about supporting and helping patients continue their fight to beat the disease.
The two motorcycle organizations also raised money and collected food donations for the cause and say they will be taking them to Hope Lodge, where they will spend the day with patients and remind them they are not alone.
