Bath Beach Park set to see first major upgrades since 1997

Posted: Updated:

There have been no major upgrades to Bath Beach Park in 22 years -- but that's about to change.

The New York City Parks Department has budgeted $5.4 million to give the park an upgrade. Councilman Justin Brannan was a major piece in working to get those funds.

The goal is to make the space welcoming to all ages, and offer more activities for parkgoers. There will be adult fitness areas, playgrounds, sprinklers as well as more trees throughout the park.

The community board voted and approved the plan this past week, adding bicycle racks to the plan, which they believed are needed.

The Parks Department said in a statement, "We are confident the proposed upgrades will benefit this community for generations to come."

There is still a long process ahead, but the community board district manager tells News 12 that construction will likely be done in 2022.
