A firefighter put his life on the line Tuesday night after a fire broke out at the Mill Brook Houses in the Bronx.
The FDNY responded to a fire in an apartment of the 10th floor. The FDNY says firefighters had to run upstairs to rescue tenants who were trapped in their apartments.
Carmen Luna and her mother Iris Andujar say they are thankful for the members of the FDNY.
They say the firefighter didn't leave their side even after radio chatter indicated one of the fellow firefighters needed assistance.
Luna is glad the firefighter stayed to evacuate her and her family. She say the smoke was far too thick to navigate by themselves.
Resident Paulette Williams says her 15-year-old daughter passed out twice. Resident Jasmine Rivera says she received oxygen in an ambulance.
"It was really scary but I am thankful for the firefighters that helped me because I could have lost my life," said Rivera.
Fire officials say the two tenants and the firefighter sustained injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
