Officials: At least 1 person injured in police-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:
At least one person was injured in a police-involved shooting in Gowanus Tuesday, according to officials.

Police say they were called to Baltic and Hoyt streets just before 8 p.m.

Police say two plainclothes officers were patrolling the Gowanus Houses area in an unmarked car and observed a man firing a gun at another man. They immediately identified themselves as police and ordered the man to drop the gun. Police say both officers fired their weapons and struck the suspect multiple times.

The suspect is in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital, police say. They add that the two officers were taken to another hospital uninjured for evaluation.

The suspect was released from prison last week and served five years for robbery, police said at a news conference Tuesday night. They say the suspect was on parole and has a long criminal past, including multiple violent felony convictions.

Police said they are currently investigating the trajectory of the shots fired by the suspect, and are looking for the other man involved at this time.
