State police: 3 people dead following I-80 multi-vehicle crash

State police say three people were killed and another was seriously injured in an early morning, multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in the Parsippany-Troy Hills area.
The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. in the eastbound express lanes around mile marker 45.2, approaching the Beverwick Road exit near Route 46.
Firefighters were called after one of the vehicles clearly caught fire.
First responders focused much of their work on two cars, but there were also several others, including a Federal Express tractor-trailer, as well as an SUV.
Morris County prosecutors have confirmed that two women and one man were killed in the crash. Another man was severely injured.
Their identities have not been released.
A witness to the accident, Louie Oliva, says the injured man was pulled out of the burning SUV. He says he helped direct traffic with his cellphone flashlight while others assisted the victims.
"It was intense," Oliva said. "Especially when [you] see a vehicle in flames, see other vehicles crushed and just thinking about people in that car not moving or not leaving the vehicle."
All eastbound lanes reopened around 8 a.m.
The cause of the crash is unclear at this time.
