Norwalk school officials: Some school buses could be among massive nationwide recall

More than 50,000 school buses are being recalled nationwide, some of which may have been used in Connecticut.
Daimler Trucks North America says the lack of impact absorption padding in seats could increase the risk of injury in crashes, leading to a recall of up to 53,528 Thomas Built school buses made since 2014.
Norwalk public schools confirmed that it added 49 new school buses in 2016, but says it hasn't yet been notified whether those buses are impacted by the recall.
Norwalk uses the company First Student, which issued a statement saying in part, "First Student is working with Thomas Built to identify and repair school buses affected by the recall involving the thickness of seat padding. The recall does not affect a large majority of First Student buses."
The recall will take effect on Dec. 2.
