The city announced some major new projects for Brooklyn on Wednesday.
This is all a part of the de Blasio administration's Green Wave bicycle plan. It is being done to encourage more New Yorkers to ride their bikes and to make sure cyclists are kept safe.
The city Department Of Transportation says the majority of cyclist deaths this year - 16 out of 25 - were reported in Brooklyn.
The plan is aimed at lowering speed limits, retiming traffic lights and adding more protected bike lanes like the ones on Fountain Avenue.
After the successful pilot of the Green Wave signal timing in Boerum Hill, the initiative is going to be expanded to other popular bike routes in Brooklyn and throughout the city.
The next round of protected bike lanes is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
