Anti-gun violence gala pays tribute to slain Brooklyn man

Posted: Updated:

An anti-gun violence gala was held Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum in honor of a man who was fatally shot in 2017.

Friends and family came together to celebrate the life of Melquain Jatelle Anderson, and to pay tribute to other mothers who have also lost children to gun violence.

The gala comes on the two-year anniversary of Anderson's death, who was gunned down outside of the Farragut Houses while waiting for a bus.

Family say they want to give back to local artists by allowing them to showcase their artwork, because Anderson was also an artist.

Loved ones say they will continue holding events to honor Melquain in hopes of keeping his legacy alive.
