The police officer who was placed into a coma following a deadly shooting in Brownsville Friday is back home with his family.
Officer Lesly Lafontant is a 21-year police veteran serving Brownsville's 73rd Precinct. Doctors say Lafontant suffered injuries to his head and neck and fractured facial bones.
Lafontant was injured while responding to an incident at a nail salon when a man hit him in the head with a metal chair. That's when Lafontant fatally shot the man six times.
Lafontant was later placed into a medically induced coma. Doctors say while Lafontant still has a long way to go, he is expected to make a full recovery.
