Police: Woman hit in head with hammer in Shoreham home invasion

Police say a teenage girl was injured during a home invasion in East Shoreham early Thursday morning, and that the incident appears to be targeted.

Police say a woman was hit in the head with a hammer in a home invasion in Shoreham Thursday morning.

The incident happened at a house on Suffolk Down at 3 a.m., according to police.

Officials say three men, including one armed with what appeared to be a gun, walked into the home.

They say six people were home at the time when the suspects confronted a man and woman in a bedroom, hitting the woman with a hammer.

Authorities say the trio tried stealing a safe but dropped it as they were leaving. Detectives believe the home was targeted.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
