Suffolk police say a Lake Ronkonkoma man was arrested for abusing three dogs Friday night.

They say they were called to the apartment of Thomas Benjamin, 56, around 8:30 p.m. Once they arrived, officers say they found evidence that Benjamin was choking and kicking the dogs.

Benjamin was charged with two counts of animal cruelty. He'll be arraigned at a later date.

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Control took the dogs into its care.
