Candidates weren't the only ones on the ballot this year. New Yorkers also had the chance to voice their opinions on five ballot proposals, which all passed.
Question 1: Elections PASSED
Should voters be able to rank up to 5 candidates in primary & special elections? Should special elections be moved to 80 days after the seat is vacated (except mayor)? Should City Council redistricting be moved 3 months earlier to December 2022?
Question 2: Civilian Complaint Review Board PASSED
Should the size of the CCRB be increased from 13 to 15 members? Should the CCRB budget be protected? Should the police commissioner be required to provide a written explanation if departing from recommendations made by the CCRB? Should the CCRB be able to investigate false statements of officers? Should the CCRB have the power to issue subpoenas?
Question 3: Ethics & Government PASSED
Should the post-employment agency appearance ban for elected officials be increased from 1 to 2 years after leaving office? Should 2 of the 5 Conflicts of Interest Board members be appointed by the public advocate & comptroller? Should COIB members be banned from working on political campaigns & their campaign contributions be limited? Should the City's Corporation Counsel be approved by City Council?
Question 4: City Budget PASSED
Should the City be allowed to have a "rainy day" fund? Should the budgets for public advocate & borough presidents be protected? Should the mayor be required to submit a non-property tax revenue estimate by April 26 (instead of June 5)? Should the mayor be required to notify City Council about necessary budget changes within 30 days?
Question 5: Land Use PASSED
Should the Dept. of City Planning be required to send a detailed summary of any ULURP projects to the borough president, borough board & community board 30 days before the public review? Should community boards get additional time to review ULURP project applications?
