Brooklyn Winery's 2015 sparkling chardonnay won gold at this year's New York Wine Classic hosted by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation.
The Williamsburg-based winery took first out of about 900 submissions and showed the rest out of the country that Brooklyn can also produce exceptional wine.
Urban wineries like Brooklyn Winery are a gamechanger not only for consumers but also for trade.
A young sommelier or wine professional that has not had the chance to visit a wine region can now experience what it is like to taste wine out of the barrel with the winemaker and not even leave New York.
The hope for this urban winery is that this accomplishment encourages more New Yorkers to drink local.
