Police: Man dies in shooting near school in East New York

EAST NEW YORK -

A man was fatally shot in East New York Tuesday.

It happened around 8:45 a.m. on Pennsylvania Avenue and Dumont Avenue, near a school.

Officials say children were outside, near the scene at the time of the shooting.

Police say the victim was struck numerous times in the abdomen. They say two FDNY EMTs were on their way to work when they heard the gunshots and found the victim. They say they began to give him CPR and then rushed him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An MTA bus and a school bus were also struck in the crossfire.

Family and friends say the victim was a good man who recently became a father.

Police are still searching for the shooter. They tell News 12 they believe the suspect was last seen headed northbound on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
