Kids compete in double Dutch tournament
Kids of all ages came out to George Gershwin Junior High Saturday to try and win the Turkey Bowl 2019 Double Dutch Tournament.
The event is hosted by the Double Dutch League, which has been hosting tournaments for four years. This is the first time organizers have brought a tournament to New York City.
The age groups range from first grade through high school students. There are seven teams represented, three of which are from Brooklyn.
The young jumpers will have to perform three different skill sets. The first are a series of exercises and coordination drills. The second is a speed test counting how many steps they can get in two minutes and five seconds. The third is a freestyle where jumpers will be judged on their creativity and execution.
This is the first of the three tournaments the International Double Dutch League will hold this season. The next one is planned for February.
