$9M grant allocated to improve transportation in South Brooklyn

Posted: Updated:

Some transportation changes may be coming to South Brooklyn within the next year.

Rep. Max Rose announced new federal funding which has been allocated to improving transportation in the borough.

A total of $9 million of federal funding will be going to improve transportation in the area.

For months, Rose has been pushing the federal government to provide the funding. He says the money will help improve bus safety and accessibility in Southern Brooklyn .

The congressman called for drastic improvements to infrastructure and transportation, especially in often underserved areas of Southern Brooklyn.

On Sunday, he announced the new grant to go toward building bus bulbs at 15 stops in Southern Brooklyn.

He says residents in this part of the borough feel the brunt of the systems shortcomings, and that the new improvements will make many people's commutes a lot easier.

Rose points to a busy area along the 86th Street corridor and 18th Avenue, which he says is a heavily trafficked area in dire need of upgrades.
