Brownsville elementary school students hold Thanksgiving giveaway

Posted: Updated:

Students from a local elementary school wanted to make sure they were helping for the holidays – and hosted their own Thanksgiving giveaway.

Kids at P.S. 327 in Brownsville provided full Thanksgiving meals for the families of 67 of their own classmates, who are currently living in temporary housing.

Their "Feast Of Love" identified the families and their household size to make sure they had enough food for Thursday's celebration.

The students even prepared for performances for the event. Organizers say they hope kids learn how to empathize through the giveaway.

"People just feel a sense of love and trust and just belief that they are supported, and the idea is that hopefully, the children will learn that they will be able to support someone else," said Assistant Principal Joan Duvernay.
