NYPD recently announced Chief Rodney Harrison has now been promoted to chief of detectives. This is a historic moment as Harrison is the first African-American to hold this position.

He will be filling the power position of new police commissioner Dermott Shea.

Harrison previously held the role of chief of patrol. He also has decades of experience supervising police investigations.

Harrison joined the NYPD in 1991 as a police cadet.

Chief Fausto Pichardo has been promoted from his position in the Patrol Services Bureau and is taking over the role of chief of patrol.

He began his career with the NYPD in 1997.
