A Special Olympics United Sports floor hockey game at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School Friday brought together students with and without disabilities to teach inclusion, equality and sportsmanship.
Unified Sports is an inclusive sports program that unites Special Olympics athletes and partners as teammates for training and competition.
It is an opportunity for students to play on a team together regardless of whether they have a disability or not.
Eight United Sports teams in New York City competed against each other in the scrimmage game Friday.
Many teams will also compete at a regional tournament next week, with hopes to move on to the statewide competition in February 2020.
