Sen. Andrew Gounardes celebrated plans to make a train station more accessible in one of the neighborhoods he represents.
Currently, stairs are the only way for people to get up to the train at the 18th Street station along the D train, but now the MTA has plans to change that.
Sen. Gounardes led efforts to make this station accessible and the MTA is now including plans to do just that in the upcoming capital plan beginning in 2020.
That capital plan calls for more than $50 billion, $5.2 billion of that is set to go to making stations around the city more accessible.
The D train station in Bensonhurst is one of 70 stations.
Sen. Gounardes was out at the station greeting commuters Monday, celebrating the victory.
He says one of the closest accessible stations is about over a mile away.
Once this station is accessible, he says it will make things easier for thousand in the area.
